I have been dancing since I was four years old, first in classical ballet, tap and contemporary. I was taken to my first belly dance class by a friend and haven't looked back. I have been performing since 2005 and now dance as part of the Desert Dreams duo, as a member of Farrah: The Egyptian Dance Artists, and as a solo performer. I enjoy teaching belly dance classes (see Classes page for details), and have done several series of classes to teach a group a particular choreography. My aim is to share the joy I experience through dance with others; no matter their age, shape or background.
My first beloved and long-term teacher was Daria from Kogarah; I danced with her troupe the Desert Gypsies for many years. For several years I have attended Egyptian dance seminars and Farrah rehearsals by Paivi Mielikainen. I often attend workshops by Australian and international dancers (including Jrisi Jusakos, Carolina of Cairo, Dina, Ranya Renee of New York, Amera).
My usual show goes like this: I dance an instrumental for my entrance with veil, Isis wings or silk veil fans and then incorporate my sword play. Next I include some pop songs and/or a folkoric number. I finish with the ever-popular dynamic drum solo.
Highlights of my career so far have been performing as Zeina in the Letters from Egypt stage show by Farrah; in front of Dina at the Bellydance Star Awards, and in all stage shows of the 1001 Arabian Nights Extravaganza tour with the Desert Jewels.
You can see me perform regularly at Sahra by the River Restaurant, Parramatta on Friday at 8:30pm. Like our Facebook page to hear about other upcoming performances.
